Birth....

Born in Jamaica West Indies during the late 1970's it was hard to express to his parents the nonstop pain he was feeling. By the age of 3 noticing that something seemed to be terribly wrong with their seemingly healthy son, he was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia. On that day something was born. Relief. Now knowing a name to what was going on they can begin to take the steps to heal and grow.

Adolescence....

The coming of age. Not being raised to feel sorry for himself.  He did not see much difference between himself and other kids his age. With the exception of frequent hospital stays that is. At the age of 16 he was told in the presence of his mother that he would not live past the age of 18. Something was born on this day as well. Perseverance. Perseverance is a steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.

On this day \po-'e-tik\ clothing company was born. \po-'e-tik\ is hope, it is knowledge, it is a legacy. Something larger than oneself.

Adulthood/Present....

Married, and a homeowner with 2 children, he is now 31 and has proven countless doctors wrong by doing the only thing he knew to do,. live. Not only has he survived but he has thrived. What started 15 years ago is now finally being put into something tangible. Wanting to bring awareness to not only HIS affliction but countless other genetic diseases the idea came to him to create a clear message. One that can be seen everywhere, worn on your chest for all to see. Fusing his love of fashion with a driving need to educate and enlighten the world 1 t-shirt at a time.

Poetry is beauty. You can always find something beautiful, even in the most bleak situations. You just have to look for it.

That's \po-'e-tik\!
